Sunday Vespers

Sunday Vespers (also known as Evening Prayer) will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in Little Flower Church.

Please plan to attend.

Evening prayer is the wonderful and ancient prayer of the Church. It is also liturgy, just the Mass is liturgy.

It is a great way to end a Sunday and begin the week.

Evening Prayer is about a half hour long. If you have never been to Evening Prayer, give it a try.

March-June 2008 Schedules

The new Lay Minister Schedules are available. I emailed them to all ministers that I have email addresses for. If you did not get it you may download a copy by clicking on the schedules link in the upper right of this blog. You will be taken to a web page. Click on schedule and then the down pointing arrow at the far right of the file name. The schedule will download to your computer.
You need Adobe Acrobat Reader version 4 or new to open the file, and print it. Version 8 is the latest version.

The schedule will be available through this blog until the next lay minister questionnaire is posted in early May 2008.

A limited number of hard copy printouts of the schedule will be in the Sacristy for those who can can't get it any other way.

Lent

The liturgical season of Lent starts Wednesday, February 6, 2008 with Ash Wednesday. While Ash Wednesday is not a day of obligation it would be good for all Lay Ministers to attend mass and receive ashes.

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion (Distributors) are usually called upon to help distribute ashes at the Ash Wednesday masses.

Using the thumb of your right hand you dip into the plate of ashes and make the Sign of the Cross on each persons forehead while saying one of the following:

“Remember man (woman) you are dust and to dust you shall return.”
or
“Turn away from sin, and be faithful to the Gospels.”

++++++++++
If you haven’t received the March to May minister questionnaire, you may download a copy by clicking on the Schedule link in the upper right of your screen. Fill it out and return it any way that works for you.

May we all have a good Lent.
Peace and blessings

Feast of the Immaculate Conception

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception, December 8, falls on a Saturday this year. This IS a Holy Day of Obligation!
There will be a vigil mass on Friday, December 7, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. The mass time on Saturday morning is 9:00 a.m.

Note: The 4:30 p.m. mass on Saturday does not count for the Holy Day! It is the Sunday liturgy, the Second Sunday of Advent.

We will, of course, need ministers for these Holy Day Masses. These two mass times were not on the recent questionnaire I sent out. If you can serve at either of these liturgies please send me an email or leave a note in the box in the Sacristy.

Thank you.
